• ECTN 174   COMPUTER FORENSICS: OPERATING SYSTEMS INTERNALS

    Prerequisite: ECTN 173 with a grade of 'C' or better or CIS 073 with a grade of 'C' or better.

    Description: Students will explore the internal workings of computer operating systems and perform forensic examinations of various operating systems. Students will analyze FAT, NTFS, Ext2, Ext3, UFS1, and UFS2 file systems and data structures. Students will learn to recognize systems that have been compromised by viruses or other intrusive programs, and will be able to locate corrupt, hidden or deleted data. (Same as CIS 174) Two hours lecture, three hours activity.
